Now Embarking: Doggie Cruise

Hornblower to host dogs for first-ever Bow Wow Brunch

The Bow Wow Brunch sets sail on September 20. This Hornblower Cruises event is the biggest dog-related tale to splash into San Diego Bay since big screen icon Anchorman Ron Burgundy’s beloved Baxter was kicked off the Coronado Bridge by a biker played by Jack Black.

The two-hour cruise will be the first-ever dog-friendly voyage for Hornblower, says director of marketing Rebecca Milkey. She says 90 tickets have already been fetched, and she expects the remaining 100 will be lapped up.
Special preparations will be made for this doggone event. The Sky Deck will be covered with Easy Turf, for dogs that need to relieve themselves. “Just for the day, we’re renaming it the Poop Deck,” says Milkey.

There are a few special rules for the canine cruise. One dog per adult. No puppies under six months old. Dogs must stay on leashes. No cats. And it goes without saying that punting dogs off the side of the boat will be frowned upon.

Tickets are $59.95, with a portion of proceeds going to the Helen Woodward Animal Center. Both human and four-legged-friendly buffets will be served, with free-flowing champagne available to any adult passenger with an opposable thumb.

Milkey is trying to secure a special guest that would guarantee to get tails wagging: Bobby Gorgeous, the Pomeranian who recently won the doggie bikini contest at the Dog Surf Championship in Del Mar.
