Not Missing: Baby King Cobra

King Cobra

Despite what some TV stations are reporting, animal services officials don't think there's a cobra on the loose.

San Diego County Animal Services said they were alerted several weeks ago after somebody posted a sign at an apartment complex in Del Cerro near the intersection of Adobe Falls and Waring roads, warning residents that a baby king cobra was missing. Investigators went out but were unable to locate any evidence of the reportedly missing reptile.

Officials said that because there was no callback information available on the sign, they suspect the incident is a hoax.

The king cobra is the world's largest venomous snake, according to the, and typically grows to 12 feet, though the biggest specimen on record was 18 feet.
