NFL Exec Coming to San Diego to Explore Stadium Options

NFL Executive VP Eric Grubman will be coming to San Diego on April 14 to meet with the stadium advisory group

An NFL executive will be making a trip out to San Diego to explore Chargers stadium options here, according to the San Diego Citizens' Stadium Advisory Group.

The nine-member group spent an hour talking with NFL Executive VP Eric Grubman over the phone Tuesday, discussing their efforts to construct a new stadium in Mission Valley.

Few details were released about the content of the call, but group spokesman Tony Manolatos said they talked about how to fund a San Diego stadium and the process the Chargers would have to undergo to move to Carson.

"CSAG had a very productive conversation with Mr. Grubman," CSAG Chair Adam Day said. "There was a good exchange of information. We talked about best practices, financing options, engaging NFL owners, and next steps. We're looking forward to meeting with Mr. Grubman next week."

Grubman will be coming to San Diego to meet with the advisory group in person on April 14 – the first of many anticipated trips.

The conference call came the same day that San Diego County supervisors and city council members voted to split the cost of consultants hired to research and negotiate stadium options. The agreement states the city and county would both pay $250,000 to find the best lawyers and consultants to create a plan.
