New Waste Water Facilities Near Completion

The Leucadia Waste Water District is celebrating its 50th anniversary by upgrading its facilities.

They gave us a sneak peek at their new digs in at Lacosta Avenue and El Camino Real in Carlsbad Tuesday.

The new energy-efficient facility covers four acres and includes a headquarters building and new operations and maintenance facilities.

Employees had been spread out in several facilities.

“A lot of people don’t understand where the water goes,” said Paul Bushee, GM of the Leucadia Waste Water District. “We have a system of pipes and pump stations that takes the water from your house to a treatment facility to where it’s either recycled or disposed of properly.”

The remodel includes the facade of an existing pump station that is visible to the public.

The new buildings are expected to be complete by the end of this summer. Once its finished, the district plans to have a public celebration.
