New School Project Runs Out of Cash

It's a sign of the tough economic times.  A developer runs out of money before completing a project. Now the Vista Unified School District may have to borrow more money to make sure the work gets done, so a new magnet school campus can open.

Mission Vista High School is located on 66 acres near Highway 76 and Melrose in Oceanside. It was supposed to open in August of last year, but there have been numerous delays, including the latest problem. There is no infrastructure to hook up the school"s utilities, like sewer, water and electricity.

Cadence Homes was supposed to provide that infrastructure on the property next to the new campus, but it ran out of cash.
Now the School Board is considering borrowing another five million dollars to get the job done and the school opened by August of this year.

The Board meets Thursday night to decide what to do.
