New School Police Chief For San Diego Unified Named

The San Diego Unified School District named a new police chief on Tuesday.

Capt. Michael Marquez, a 27-year law enforcement veteran, will take over the position.

Marquez began his career in 1990 with the National City Police Department.

He has previously served as the Interim Chief for the San Diego Unified Police Department, which he had joined in 2001.

According to a spokeperson, Marquez focused on creating a "guardian mentality" with the students, rather than one of authority.
