New Grocery Delivery Service Launches in San Diego

San Diego residents will soon have an option have groceries delivered to their home in as quickly as one hour.

It’s part of a newly launched delivery service called Instacart, which has personal shoppers who hand pick and delivery items to clients.

Instacart has already started in 24 U.S. cities, including Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Starting on Tuesday, it becomes available to nine zip codes in mainly the downtown and uptown areas of San Diego: 92101, 92102, 92103, 92104, 92105, 92108, 92110, 92115 and 92116.

The stores included in the delivery service are Whole Foods Market, Jimbo’s, Costco, Petco, Smart & Final and Ralph’s.

Here’s how it works: You can download the app on your iPhone or Android, select your city and store, add items to a virtual cart and then choose when you want the items delivered (anywhere between one hour and seven days).

Orders must be for $10 or more. The price of delivery depends on the size of the order as well as the demand of the service at the time.

Representatives from Instacart will be at the Padres-Brewers game at Petco Park on Aug. 1 to talk about the delivery service.
