The Coronado Naval Base opened twenty beachfront cottages for members and retirees of the military.
Military personnel pay $125 per night for a two-bedroom, one-bath cottage with granite counter tops, flat-screen TVs and Blu-ray players, air conditioning, high ceilings and Wi-Fi.
Less than $5 million was spent on the project and was funded by revenue from other Navy recreation facilities and built on a parking lot said Brandon Workman of the Navyβs Moral, Welfare and Recreation unit.
The cottages opened on Friday and are already booked through the summer season.
Workman said itβs a chance for military personnel to get away for a while from their day-to-day grind.
The Navy planned on expanding a nearby hotel-like lodge later this year. After its completion, the lodge will be the largest of its kind within the Navy.
