Multiple People Detained in Connection to Shooting at Chula Vista Marijuana Dispensary

One man told NBC 7, "I love weed," as he was being handcuffed and taken away by police

Police detained several people at a marijuana dispensary following a shooting in Chula Vista Thursday, confirmed Chula Vista police.

Broken jars of what appeared to be marijuana and hash oil lay scattered across the parking lot around 11 a.m. Chula Vista police officers took a number of people into custody to question them about the shooting.

One man told NBC 7, "I love weed," as he was being handcuffed and taken away by police.

Just before 3 a.m., a victim arrived at Scripps Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, according to police. While investigating this case, police were lead to the marijuana dispensary at the 1000 block of Third Avenue.

Officers believe that people inside the dispensary have more information about the shooting.

Police said the shooting victim is currently undergoing surgery and is expected to survive.

Neighbors around the dispensary say they've never had problems at this dispensary in the past, so they are surprised and worried by this incident.

"We live in a rough neighborhood but closer to home, you know, and when it happens like this, it’s kind of shocking for us," said Samuel Gutierrez, a resident in the area.

Gerardo Gutierrez, who runs a car shop next to the dispensary, told NBC 7 he is concerned by how this may impact his business.

His business was taped off as police collect evidence all over the parking lot. As this investigation continues, Gerardo fears he will lose customers.

He says this investigation has ruined his day as he was forced to reschedule a dozen appointments.
