The Christmas spirit was alive and well at San Alto Elementary School on Wednesday morning.
MTS surprised about 160 students with new bikes as part of a yearly effort to bring holiday gifts to youngsters who may not be able to afford their own.
In a morning assembly at the Lemon Grove school, the students were asked to cover their eyes. Then, MTS officials, including a Santa, exclaimed: “Everyone’s getting bikes today!”
The students cheered.
In the assembly, the students learned about bike safety tips and also were gifted with helmets.
MTS has been providing bikes to San Diego County students for 12 holiday seasons. In total, 700 bikes and helmets have been donated.
