A motorcyclist killed Sunday afternoon in Pauma Valley may have been trying to pass in a non-passing zone, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly crash happened around 12:10 p.m. on South Grade Road near State Route 76 in front of the Oak Knoll Campground.
A witness told officers that shortly before the crash, the motorcycle passed him by crossing over the double yellow line.
According to CHP, the biker then tried to pass a Toyota Corolla, not realizing the car was about to turn left into the campground.
The Triumph motorcycle smashed into the side of the sedan and slid underneath the vehicle.
Paramedics arrived and attempted CPR, but were unable to save his life. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials have not released the victim’s name, but said he is a 55-year-old man from Oceanside.

The two people inside the Toyota, including the 45-year-old female driver, were not injured.
It is unknown if drugs, alcohol or speed played a role in the crash. CHP is investigating.
