Motorcyclist Killed in Freeway Crash in Kearny Mesa

The motorcyclist lost control on the transition ramp from I-15 to SR-52 and hit a guardrail

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on a freeway transition ramp in Kearny Mesa early Tuesday.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the rider was on the ramp from Interstate 15 to westbound SR-52 when he lost control at around 5:20 a.m. He struck a guardrail and was thrown onto SR-52. 

CHP officers identified the rider as a 62-year-old man from Lakeside. His name was not immediately released, pending notification of his family.

Officers said two separate drivers witnessed the crash and tried to help the man but one of them ended up accidentally driving over the motorcyclist.

Part of the freeway was closed during the investigation. Lanes reopened several hours later.

No further details were released.
