More Than 1,000 Without Power in Carlsbad After Flaming Tree Falls on Power Lines

More than 1,000 people are without power in Carlsbad after a large tree fell on a power line, officials said.

Communities in the Carlsbad and La Costa area are being affected. As of 10:15 p.m., 1,022 customers were without power. The power is expected to be restored at 1 a.m. Thursday.

The incident started on the 2800 block of Elmwood Street when a large tree smoldering from fire fell onto power lines. For a time, the lines were left down and sparking.

Firefighters first had to wait for the power lines to be turned off before they could start putting out the tree fire.

SDG&E said they are investigating the cause of the outage.
