Mission Beach will finally get a chance to recycle lazy style...next year.
San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, along with Councilman Kevin Faulconer and Mission Beach Town Council member Bill Bradshaw, announced Tuesday that Mission Beach will get its first curbside pickup service ever. It is the only part of San Diego that doesn't have the service.
When given the chance to become a part of the system, Mission Beach opted out, according to Sanders. As time wore on though, it was obvious that using the recycling drop-offs was just a pain in the you-know-what. Community members and Mission Beach's town council called for a change. San Diego officials heard their call.
"It's the right thing to do for the environment," said Faulconer. "And it's the right thing to do for Mission Beach."
Unfortunately for the beachside community, they will have to wait until next summer to see the blue bins on the curb. Because the town has a multitude of narrow alleys, a regular recycling truck just won't do. The city must purchase an "alley cat", a truck designed to navigate tight spaces between buildings, and it won't be available until next year, said Sanders.
