Marine Convoy Jackknives Against Tree

A Marine convoy slipped down an embankment and into a tree Monday afternoon, prompting a Sig Alert on a main Fallbrook road.

Just before 3 p.m., the military truck pulling two trailers was moving equipment from Camp Pendleton to 29 Palms when a piece of equipment came loose on E. Mission Road near E. Live Oak Park Road, according to CHP Officer Ronald Harris.

As the driver pulled to the right shoulder, one container hit a tree branch, so the driver corrected to the left. But the movement sent the trailer sliding right over the dirt and down the embankment.

The vehicle and trailer jackknifed around a tree, halting traffic on E. Mission Road, less than a mile west of Interstate 15.

No one was injured in the crash, and the military was called in to take care of the recovery.
