Mission Valley residents will now have a new fire station in their neighborhood.
Mayor Kevin Faulconer cut the red tape on Fire Station #45 Monday as part of his promise to improve public safety in every neighborhood.
Station #45, in Mission Valley, is the first station built in San Diego since 2008.
Located north of Friars Road and across the street from Qualcomm Stadium, the new station will replace a temporary one that has served the area since 2006.
The station will be able to house additional firefighters and engines.
