The massive tree fell around 6:15 a..m. on a home near the intersection of Santa Monica Avenue and Santa Barbara Street.

When police arrived at the scene, a neighbor was trying to reach the occupants through a second-story window. There was so much structural damage to the home, crews were at first unable to get inside.

The width of the tree trunk appeared to be as wide as the average person, SkyRanger 7 footage showed. SDPD said early reports indicated the tree could be up to 100 feet tall.

The tree fell in an area with several power lines, downing several live wires, SDPD said. San Diego Gas & Electric crews were called to shut off power. There were also concerns that the tree damaged a gas line.

Crews had trouble initially getting inside the home. There was a third person inside the home at the time of the tree collapse. The person was on the first floor and was able to be rescued, according to SDPD.
