Masked Man Puts South Bay Community on Alert

A woman was home alone when a masked walked up to her front door before leaving

A couple in Imperial Beach got quite a scare Friday afternoon after their security cameras showed a man walking up to their front door wearing a mask.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. The woman and her husband are still shaken up about the incident and did not want to be identified.

The most frightening part about the whole ordeal was that the woman was home alone at the time.

"My husband just left to go to work and I was sitting on the couch with my dog watching TV," the woman said.

She heard the gate opened and then her dog immediately started barking loudly.

"I saw she was barking at a different window than she normally barks at," the woman said.

The house behind is for sale so that initially gave her the benefit of the doubt until she saw the surveillance footage from her security camera.

"Somebody must have thought the house was vacant because of the for sale sign in front of our property," she said.

But something didn't sit right with her and she went to her phone to check her security cameras that overlook her front door and driveway.

She saw the man opened her gate, walked up to her door then turned around. He was wearing a mask over his face.

Later Friday night, she and her husband looked over both cameras and noticed the same man pacing at the end of their driveway before making his way to do the door.

"That night, I posted it on Facebook on the Neighborhood Watch Page so that people could be aware of it," she said.

The woman said she called the police but since no crime was committed, there was little they can do.

They did, however, marked the incident as a suspicious activity and gave her a report number.
