The military is investigating the death of a 19-year-old Marine as a murder, according to Navy Criminal Investigative Services.
NCIS confirmed that Lance Cpl. Mario Arias, who was found dead in his barracks on Sunday, was murdered.
The Marine was found dead in his bed, the apparent victim of a homicide.
NCIS says another Marine is the suspect in Arias' murder. He was found outside the barracks after jumping from a third floor balcony. The suspect is in custody.
Arias, of Canoga Park, Calif., was an aircrew trainee from Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron 303, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. He enlisted in the Marine Corps Aug. 23, 2010 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
