A neighbor arrested for allegedly punching an elderly Carlsbad couple over Proposition 8 yard signs has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disturbing the peace.
Lawrence Pizzicara, who has been in jail since the Nov. 3 confrontation, entered the plea Thursday. He was placed on a years' probation and released. The plea came a day before the 53-year-old Pizzicara was scheduled to stand trial for felony elder abuse.
Investigators said the couple -- a 76-year-old man and his 77 year-old wife -- had placed a "Yes on Prop. 8" sign in their yard. Pizzicara placed a "No on Prop. 8" sign on the grassy median strip between their homes.
Prop 8 was passed by voters and amended the state constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman.
