A legal permanent resident tried to enter the San Ysidro Port of Entry on Wednesday with close to $400,000 worth of methamphetamine, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Thursday.
The man, a 30-year-old French citizen, was trying to enter the country on his 2018 Jeep Cherokee when he was referred to secondary inspection, the agency said.
During the inspection, agents found 109 wrapped packages of methamphetamine totaling 115 pounds hidden in the quarter panels and tailgate of the vehicle.
"Methamphetamine is a dangerous substance not to mention the risks it poses to our neighborhoods and communities throughout our nation," San Ysidro Port director Sidney Aki said. "This latest seizure and arrest continues to demonstrate the vital role CBP plays in securing the border."
The man was turned over Homeland Security Investigation for further processing. He was booked into San Diego County jail on drug smuggling charges.
