Man Killed In 60-Foot Fall

A man was found dead Wednesday after his ATV plummets 60 feet down an embankment in remote North County.

Emergency operators got a call at about 11:45 a.m. Wednesday that a man had fallen off a cliff. Deputies and the fire department workers went to the 3400 block of Conquistador Road in the community of De Luz -- which is north of Camp Pendleton's eastern border -- and found the man, who was dead when they arrived.

According to the county medical examiner, the man met his work group at a Fallbrook farm worksite to begin his Entomology scout work. A short time later, workers heard a loud sound coming down a cliff. They found the man at the bottom of a cliff, approximately 120 to 140 feet down.

His name has not been released pending next of kin notification but he is identified as a 49-year old man from San Bernardino.

The California division of Occupational Safety and Health was notified after the incident.
