He's da Bomb: Man Saves Firework

Grass-roots fundraising efforts raised $27,000 to fund La Jolla Cove fireworks display

Hard work has paid off for a La Jolla man trying to do good.

Thanks to the fundraising efforts by local resident Adam Harris, the July Fourth La Jolla Cove fireworks will go on.

"George Hauer -- owner of George's at the Cove -- was going to be putting on this event," Harris said. "I didn't realize he was the one who financially sponsored the event every year and said, 'Hey, we gotta save the fireworks.' "

In just four days, with the help of more than 120 donors, Harris' last minute Internet campaign at SaveLaJollaFireworks.com reached its goal of raising the $27,000 needed to fund this year's show.

Harris said this year's display will be bigger than ever and may even have a few surprises in store.

Hauer used to pay for the 4th of July fireworks, but due to the recession and loss of grants, he recently announced he would be unable to fund the show. Hauer has volunteered to coordinate all of the last minute permits and red tape needed as long as Harris' Web site generated the money for the pyrotechnic's price tag.
