A tugboat captain from Washington state has died in a San Diego hospital from injuries he suffered during a beating in Mexico on Christmas day, according to a published report.
Patrick Warga, 46, died Tuesday in a San Diego hospital, according to the Kitsap Sun.
Warga was in Tampico, Mexico, for his job with Foss Maritime. He and a shipmate attended a Christmas Eve service at a church in town and then opted to spend the night at a hotel because it was unsafe for them to return to the shipyard after dark.
On Christmas morning, before returning to the ship, Warga went out for a cup of tea. That's when he was robbed and attacked.
Warga is survived by his wife and their three children.
