Man Confesses to Killing Wife in Her Sleep: Police

The suspect walked into the Escondido Police Department Sunday and told police he had killed his wife

Escondido police are investigating the fatal stabbing of a woman who was allegedly killed in her sleep by her husband of more than 40 years.

Early Sunday morning -- just after 3:30 a.m. -- officials say a 67-year-old Abdul Ibrahim voluntarily walked into the Escondido police station and told officers he had “killed his wife with a knife.”

According to police, Ibrahim then told officers to go to his home in the 1100 block of Catspaw Place, where he claimed he had stabbed his wife to death.

When officers arrived at the couple’s home, they found the suspect’s wife – Shambanoo Ibrahim, 64 – in a bedroom. She had been stabbed numerous times in the upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe the victim was stabbed and killed in her bed while she was sleeping. There was no one else in the home at the time of the killing. Investigators say there were no signs of forced entry or signs of a struggle at the home.

Neighbors told NBC 7 that they are shocked this happened, as there was never any public sign of trouble between the Ibrahims. The couple has lived at the Escondido home for many years.

Police said the couple has lived at their Escondido home for many years and had been married for more than 40 years.

Ibrahim was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on a first-degree murder charge. He’s currently being held on a $5 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on July 2.

The investigation is ongoing, and details surrounding the motive behind the murder have not yet been released.
