Man Arrested for Alleged Sex Act on Child at Hotel Pool

The man was allegedly harassing children at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina

A suspect was arrested Thursday for performing a sex act on a child at a hotel in the Marina on Tuesday, police said.

Officers responded to a call of a man harassing children in the pool area of the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina around 7 p.m. Tuesday, San Diego Harbor Police (SDHP) said.

Once they got there, officers learned that the man had performed a lewd act on a child under 14 years old.

The suspect fled the scene prior to police's arrival after hotel security had confronted him.

After an investigation, the suspect was identified as Douglas Richard Madruga, 66, of San Diego, a registered sex offender.

On Thursday, detectives arrested Madruga on two felony counts of performing a lewd act on a child under 14 and two felony counts of harassing or molesting a child.

Using a search warrant, detectives also raided and seized several items from his house.

The Sheraton San Diego released a statement to NBC 7 regarding the event.

"We are aware of the incident being reported," General Manager Didier Luneau said. "The safety and security of our guests and associates is always a top priority."

The investigation is ongoing.
