Beaches near the San Elijo Lagoon in Encinitas are closed after a major sewage spill.
About 1,500 gallons of sewage spewed into the ocean from a pump station on Manchester Avenue and Via Poco, according to authorities.
The spill was discovered at about 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, according to county officials.
Warning signs will be posted on the beaches on either side of the spill.
This spill is coming on a day when forecasters expect high temperatures and it's a vacation week for a lot of people.
Surfers are being advised to stay out of the water.
