Officer-Involved Shooting Blocks Corner of Little Italy

A San Diego man who jumped onto a vehicle and yelled at a driver in Little Italy Saturday was involved in a confrontation with a San Diego police officer that resulted in a shooting, San Diego police officials confirmed.

Brent Zadina,30, was spotted without a shirt near the corner of India and Ash streets just before 7 p.m.

Several people flagged down an SDPD officer and reported Zadina was acting belligerently, walking into traffic, police said.

When the officer approached Zadina, the man was on the roof of a vehicle and yelling at the driver, police said.

The officer attempted to take Zadina into custody. At that point, the two men struggled and the officer deployed his stun gun. The stun gun was not effective, police said.

"At one point during the struggle the officer feared for his life," said Lt. Mike Holden. "The officer fired one round from his handgun, but missed the suspect."

Several police patrol cars were at the corner of India and Ash streets for several hours during the investigation.

SDPD officials confirmed the officer involved was not injured.

Zadina was transported to a nearby medical facility for observation, police said.

The shooting happened right in front of Music Box, according to an NBC 7 News crew that is on the scene.
