The local high school junior killed in a head-on crash on his way to school had marijuana in his system, officials said Monday.
Investigators also found a pipe and bottle of medical marijuana in the teen's clothing.
Julian Fraire, 16, died when his van crossed the double-yellow line along Steele Canyon Road on Thursday, May 20.
His vehicle collided with a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction at 7:20 a.m. just north of Campo Road, about two miles away from school.
The medical examiner now says the Steele Canyon High School junior died of blunt force injuries.
The CHP said there was no indication Fraire was texting or talking on his phone before the crash.
But the Medical Examiner's report says the driver of the other vehicle might have seen Fraire look down, just before that deadly crash.
The truck’s driver was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
