Jewelry Thieves Caught on Tape

Two men who were shot at during a jewelry-store burglary were photographed by a surveillance camera, police said.

Police said the owner of a jewelry store fired at the men who broke into Celebrity Gems and Jewelry in the 2500 block of Congress Street in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

The owner, who lives above the store, said he heard a noise at about 3:30 a.m. and went to investigate. He told investigators that one of the suspects appeared to be holding a handgun, so he fired two shots at the crook. It's not known if either man was hit, but the owner was unharmed.

The burglars fled the store, scaled a wall and may have gotten into a red SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer.
