3 Local Teens to Compete in Youth America's Cup

Jake La Dow, Jake Reynolds and Nevin Snow will participate in the September event

Three San Diego teenagers will compete in the inaugural U.S. Red Bull Youth America’s Cup for ages 19-24 this summer.

Jake La Dow, Jake Reynolds and Nevin Snow of Team USA45 will train for the San Francisco Bay event from Sept. 1-4. The San Diegans are all 19 years old.

The team trained with the San Diego Yacht Club growing up and each sailor quickly rose through the ranks of the prestigious sailing program.

La Dow and Reynolds, nicknamed “The Jakes,” have sailed together as friends at Point Loma High School and grew up surrounded by the sport.

“We were growing up in such a great environment with so many talented, successful sailors,” said La Dow.

The team will face a new challenge during the event as this year’s competition features a newer catamaran design: The AC45.

“The boats are extremely fun and extremely fast,” said La Dow.

The team is currently fundraising to participate in the event, which is supported primarily through private donations. For more information on how to donate, visit the team’s website.
