A motorcyclist died Friday from injuries he suffered in a collision on Interstate 15 near MCAS Miramar, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed.
Several lanes of southbound I-15 were blocked at 6:30 a.m. when Logan Parkhurst, 21, crashed just north of the Miramar Way exit while trying to switch lanes.
He struck the back of another vehicle then collided with a big rig and was thrown from his motorcycle, CHP said.
Parkhurst was trying to exit the freeway when he collided with a Toyota Camry, one CHP official said.
"He lost control and went down and got ejected on the roadway," the CHP officer said.
Investigators said he was struck by two oncoming vehicles.
The motorcycle was run over by the semi, the officer said.
The rider was taken to Sharp Memorial where he died from his injuries, CHP officials said.
“What a wonderful man he was and he is truly gone too soon," Parkhurst's wife Victoria told NBC 7. "I have never met a more loving and caring person and he will never leave our hearts. He was a dedicated Marine and he loved his family deeply.”
