San Diego indie culture fans are in for a treat next weekend.
The seventh annual San Diego IndieFest kicks off on March 12. This year, the Saturday/Sunday festival will be held at a new location at the NTC Promenade at Liberty Station in Point Loma (music is all on Saturday). Festival-goers enjoying views of the bay and plenty of open space will take in more than 50 musical acts performing on multiple stages. The event covers many genres of music, everything from rock to pop to folk to hip-hop to R&B to urban to world. Headliners this year include We Are Scientists, AWOLNATION and James Martsters.

The film portion of IndieFest, Mental Eclectic Indie Film Stage, will also be back this year. In 2008, the festival screened the Academy Award-winning documentary, Freeheld, as well as Sundance Award-winning films This Film Is Not Yet Rated and The Devil Came on Horseback.
The festival of indie culture has grown to include not only music, but cutting-edge ideas, progressive activism and diverse art of all kinds, including dance, visual art, poetry and crafts. San Diego IndieFest is the brainchild of Alicia Champion, the president and founder of Champ Records, and Danielle Lo Presti, the president and founder of Say It Records and one of the performing artists herself.

The festivities take place from noon to 11 p.m., and there will be an official after-party until 2 a.m. on Saturday. General admission tickets are $25.
