The primary prerequisite for every Raiders fan is the violent -- and yes, it quite often manifests as literal violence -- disdain for the San Diego Chargers. As of late, Ice Cube has been rather vocal about the latter.
The famous rapper/actor recently took to the Sports Illustrated Twittersphere to say, “San Diego, please stop sending us your trash. You sent us the Clippers, now we have the Chargers.”
As was reported in the San Diego Union Tribune, this echoes his earlier sentiment from Jan. 6, when he told ESPN, on behalf of all of Los Angeles to the Chargers, “Matter of fact, we’ll throw in the Clippers if y’all stay in San Diego.”
It’s important to note here that the Raiders were a Los Angeles team from 1982 to 1994 before they moved back to Oakland. But -- and this is a big but -- the Chargers were in Los Angeles first, having spent their debut season there in 1960 before moving to San Diego in 1961. So, sorry Cube, but you can't call dibs.
While many San Diegans are so fed up with Dean Spanos and the Chargers that they’ve actually adopted a “good riddance” attitude toward the home team, Ice Cube finds himself commiserating with the nostalgic bunch. Sure, he’s doing so condescendingly, but what more can you expect from a Raiders fan?
To be fair, the N.W.A. star has shown some musical love for our city. He did help celebrate Parq’s two year anniversary on Nov. 13, 2016, and he dropped into Fluxx on Jan. 18, 2015, for a little gangsta rap before that.
That being said, Ice Cube, don’t talk to us about trash when we have to put up with your smog, traffic and reality TV. Take back that trash, and then we’ll talk.
