iThieves Strike UTC Apple Store

Video captured on a surveillance inside the La Jolla Apple Store could hold the key to solving a smash and grab theft.

Painters at the UTC Mall noticed two men wearing hoodies and jeans walking the property after 4 a.m. Thursday then heard glass breaking.

In the surveillance video, you can see the suspects pulling at the front door and then suddenly the entire door shatters.

The noise caught the attention of an employee at another store inside the mall.

"He looked up and watched the two individuals smash out the front door, enter the store, take the display items off the display case and run out of the store," said SDPD Officer Linda Garcia.

You can see one of the suspects, carrying a bag over his arm, randomly grabbing items off the display case and then running out of the door.

When San Diego police officers arrived, they discovered some property missing.

Turns out, the men grabbed a dozen iPhone4 units worth approximately $3,100, police said.

The painters said the men ran from the mall, headed northbound on La Jolla Village Drive.
