Smoke and flames shot from a large home in Vista as firefighters tried to keep the fire from spreading to nearby homes.
The home on 2188 Via del Prado Road at Elevado Road just before 1 p.m. Friday.
A large plume of smoke rose into the sky above North County and could be seen for several miles.
San Diego County sheriff's deputies were on scene as well.
The fire was still slightly burning before 4 p.m.
