Homicide investigators were at a Scripps Ranch home Wednesday morning where an 87-year-old man was found dead in the backyard pool, police said.

The San Diego Police Department (SDPD) received a call Tuesday from a family member of the man who reported a drowning at a home on the 11700 block of Birch Glen Court. There, officers found the man at the bottom of a "nearly empty swimming pool," according to SDPD.

Authorities noted what they described as "circumstances that were considered suspicious" and called homicide detectives to the scene as a precaution. Police said circumstances regarding the man's death remain under investigation.

Details about the man's identity were not revealed, but police said he lived at the residence where he was found.

SDPD said there is no suspect wanted in connection with the death investigation at this time.

"The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the male’s death is specific to that resident only," police told NBC 7 on Wednesday. " There is no indication of any danger to members of the general public or residents in the neighborhood by the decedent’s residence."

Anyone with information on the case is encouraged to contact SDPD's Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293. Anonymous tips can be made by contacting Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.

This is a developing story. Details may change as information becomes available.
