Several streets were closed in North Park as police investigated a homicide Saturday after they found a person in a car with apparent stab wounds.

SDPD was conducting a routine traffic stop at the 2500 block of El Cajon Boulevard when they found a person inside the car covered in blood around 3:45 p.m.

"When officers contacted the occupants of the vehicle, they discovered that the passenger in the vehicle was injured and bleeding heavily from what appeared to be at least one stab wound to his lower body,'' Lt. Jud Campbell of the SDPD Homicide Unit said. He was a man who appeared to be in his late 20s.

Officers worked to save the man's life until paramedics arrived and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the lieutenant said. His name was not released.

El Cajon Boulevard was closed between Louisiana and Arizona streets and Texas Street was closed between Meade and Howard avenues for the homicide investigation.

Suspect information was not available and detectives were working to determine where the stabbing occurred, Campbell said.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
