Homicide Investigated in Santee

A woman was killed in Santee on Sunday night, according to officials.

San Diego County sheriff's deputies responded to a call around 9:45 p.m. on Sunday at the 10500-block of Strathmore Drive and discovered a woman in her 50s or 60s dead at the scene.

Officials are questioning a suspect, a man in his 60s who is acquainted with the woman. He was found with stab wounds inside the home when officials discovered the body. It is unknown how he received his injuries.

Officials say the man has been detained for questioning and has non-life threatening injuries.

"At this point we've secured the premise and we are getting warrants and homicide crime lab is here and we have the adult male detained at the hospital," said Capt. Duncan Fraser.

Neighbors have called the area a "quiet neighborhood" and told NBC 7 they are shocked to hear someone was killed in their home.

Judy Ross, a neighbor of the woman, said the victim worked at San Diego State University and was a grandma.

"She kept to herself," said another neighbor Christine Nedvecki. "I think she used to walk her dog up and down the street."

Investigators said there have been three homicides on this street in the last few years. The crimes are unrelated, but they did say it was unusual for one street to have so many incidents.

Sheriff's deputies said they do not believe there are outstanding suspects.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 858-974-2321.
