It's a very warm morning leading to a very hot afternoon. Overnight temperatures have been in the 60s and 70s. Highs Tuesday will again be in the 90s, at least inland. Still, there's some good news concerning the heat. It won't be as hot as Monday. We shouldn't break any heat records.
On Monday, eight spots around the county set highs for the date and at Lindbergh Field, the 98 wasn't only the hottest April 20th on record, it was an all-time high for the month -- period. However, this is where you'll see the biggest change Tuesday afternoon. The on-shore flow will start to kick in as the strong high pressure starts to shift east. This should mean a 10-15 degree drop in coastal highs. We may even see some fog and low clouds move in before sunset.
In the valleys, it will still be plenty warm - 80s and low 90s, but that too will be an improvement over the record-setting heat we saw on Monday. In two spots, El Cajon and at the Wild Animal Park, we hit the century mark. Tuesday should be about 5-degrees cooler in both areas. The normal high for this time of year, by the way, is 76-78 in these same areas respectively.
