Hear It Here: Blackout Party

Welcome back, Blackout Party -- the local alt-country stompers return with a new single

Welcome to the Blackout Party. The heavy hitting, alt-country stompers are finally following up their critically acclaimed 2011 album, “Closed Mouth Don’t Get Fed,” with another barnburner. The local quintet, who won last year’s San Diego Music Award for Best Rock Band (which they hope to repeat at this year’s awards), saddled up their boots and trekked to Zac Brown's Southern Ground Studios in Nashville for the recording of their upcoming full-length, "Float On Towards Our Doom."

To help finance the mixing, mastering and pressing of the band’s new record (including vinyl!), the band announced their new IndieGoGo campaign via a "Vinyl Countdown" YouTube video on Monday that’ll help get a physical, finished product in our hands sooner rather than later. Head to IndieGoGo here to help 'em out.

Indeed, it’s been awhile since we’ve heard new music from the fellas, but the band’s brand new single (the title track) puts them squarely back in the limelight. They waste no time in getting right to it: The thumping, three-and-a-half minute dirge starts off with a lone, unassuming electric guitar before a classic “one, two, three, four” shout-out finds bassist Jesse Bowen and drummer Jeff Hawthorne locking into a steady groove -- before a chorus erupts that sounds like Dave Grohl went on a heavy bender with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. It’s good to have you back, guys.

Hear it for yourself right here.
