Hawk Stuck in San Diego Store Spreads Its Wings

A store in Golden Hill has an unwanted customer in a hawk that refuses to leave.

The hawk flew into Krisp Beverages and Natural Foods Tuesday around 3:30 p.m., located in the 2500 block of C Street in Golden Hill and has perched high above store shelves.

The store also has a giant artificial tree that the hawk has been perching on.

On Tuesday, employees tried for several hours to get the bird out of the store. Wednesday afternoon, volunteers with animal emergency rescue were recruited to try to shoo the hawk into a net gently. The hawk flew into the roof and hid.

There is concern not only for customer safety but also for the bird's wellbeing.

San Diego County Animal Control told employees they could not respond to the bird. As a result, the hawk was left in the store overnight.

"Customers think it's our mascot!" said store manager Francisco Hernandez. "This happened several years ago too."

He said they eventually were able to get that hawk into a net and out of the store.

Hernandez believes the hawk currently stuck flew in while trying to catch a pigeon in the doorway.
