Gulls Stop Reign in OT, Win 4th Straight

San Diego overcomes 3-1 deficit to beat division rivals

In their first two seasons as members of the American Hockey League the San Diego Gulls found a stretch in the middle of the season where they got really, really good. They might be doing the same thing this time around.

The Gulls beat the Ontario Reign 4-3 in overtime at Valley View Casino Center, their 4th straight win after a shaky season start.

Nic Kerdiles got the scoring started in the 1st period to put the Gulls up 1-0. Kerdiles missed a couple of months with an injury and in his three games back has scored four points. After that the Reign scored three unanswered goals and took a 3-1 lead in the 3rd period.

That’s when the magic happened again. Steve Oleksy scored his 5th goal of the year and two and a half minutes later Deven Sideroff knotted it 3-3. The nets tightened up for the next 13:25 so it went to overtime, where the Gulls finally converted a power play chance.

After missing on their first five power plays of the game veteran forward Eric Fehr snuck one past Reign goalie Jack Campbell for the game-winner. With the win the Gulls jump from 7th place to 5th place in the Pacific Division. San Diego and Ontario meet again on Saturday afternoon in the Inland Empire.
