Gulls Take 2-0 Series Lead in Bakersfield

San Diego outlasts the Condors to win another road Calder Cup Playoff Game

The Gulls took Game 1 of their Pacific Division Final series in Bakersfield when Max Comtois scored in the 4th overtime to give the Gulls a 3-2 win in the 5th-longest game in American Hockey League history. After a marathon like that they wanted to make sure Game 2 did not start in one day and end in the next.

They did that and are bringing a 2-0 series lead home to San Diego.

The Gulls never trailed in a 4-1 win and rip home ice advantage away from the Condors. Now Bakersfield is going to have to win twice in San Diego if it wants to come back and advance in the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Kiefer Sherwood scored with 1:45 left in the 1st period to put the Gulls on top 1-0. Comtois got his 2nd of the series in the 2nd period and that turned out to be another game-winner.

Bakersfield got one back in the 3rd period with less than five minutes to play Isac Lundestrom, the 19-year-old center who last year was playing in the Junior World Championship with Sweden, ripped one past Condors goalie Dylan Wells to make it a 3-1 game. Adam Cracknell added an empty netter to put it completely out of reach.

After they won two games in San Jose to knock the Barracuda out of the playoffs this makes four straight road playoff wins for the Gulls. Now they get to try and match that success on home ice. Games 3 and 4 are Wednesday and Friday at Pechanga Arena. Puck drops at 7:00 each night.
