Green Cabs Roll Into SD Airport

It’s a little easier to go green this holiday season at San Diego International Airport

It’s a little easier to go green this holiday season at San Diego International Airport.

On Monday the airport rolled out 30 new fuel-efficient cabs for travelers to use this holiday season and beyond.

The Toyota Prius taxis are expected to save between $1,000 and $1,500 per month depending on the miles driven, according to airport officials. All of the vehicles were donated by local Mossy Toyota dealer. Cars will also be maintained by the dealer at no additional cost to the airport.

A trip in a fuel-efficient taxi costs the same as regular cabs, according to airport spokesperson Rebecca Bloomfield.

Drivers who man the Prius cabs also have reduced taxi fees as part of the Airport Vehicle Rebate Program, which is a private-public partnership among the Airport Authority, CCSE, Mossy Toyota, taxi operators and the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System.
