Grapevine Reopens

A portion of Interstate 5 that connects Northern and Southern California has been reopened after ice and snow forced motorists to be stranded for about two hours.

California Highway Patrol Officer Jennifer Connolly says Tuesday that ice and snow were to blame for the 6:20 a.m. closure over the Grapevine in the Tehachapi Mountains. A storm dropped a quarter-inch of rain overnight in many areas.

Southern California mountain passes also were buffeted by gusts as high as 45 mph and could reach up to 70 mph on Tuesday. Other areas could see winds ranging from 20 mph to 30 mph.

A high wind advisory for the region was expected to last until Wednesday.
