Furniture that fell from a trailer on Interstate 805 in Chula Vista caused a three-car crash and backed up traffic for miles.
The furniture fell into the roadway in northbound lanes near East J Street at around 4:20 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Three cars were involved in the ensuing crash, including an SUV that turned over on its side.
Three freeway lanes were closed leaving a sea of commuters to funnel through just the left lane to get past the scene. All lanes were reopened about an hour later.
