Funeral Business Booming Across Border

160 Slayings In Tijuana Last Month

Mexico's drug wars are fueling a boom in Tijuana's funeral industry.

Tijuana funeral home owners said that the 160 deaths last month in the border town have created a major demand for caskets, according to according to Reuters News Service. Caskets engraved with bronze and gold sell for around $25,000.
 
The funeral home owners said their business can be dangerous. They are sometimes threatened by rival drug gangs for organizing funerals for drug war victims.
 
About 4,000 people have died in Mexico this year as gangs fight for control of the drug trade.
