Friendship Park at U.S.-Mexico Border Reopens After 3 Years

The historic, bi-national Friendship Park reopened to the public for the first time over the weekend after three years of restricted access.

The Border Angels Coalition worked with the Border Patrol to reopen the park located at the U.S.-Mexico border in San Diego so that families can continue visiting and talking with their loved ones across the border fence.

Friendship Park was originally inaugurated in 1971 by First Lady Pat Nixon. It closed in 2009 after border security measures got tighter and more wall infrastructure was built.

With the reopening, the park is now open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It costs $5 to enter the park and the money goes toward the maintenance of California State Parks.
