Former Yuma Police Officer to Spend 20 Years in Prison for Sexual Assault

A San Diego judge sentenced a former Yuma police officer to 20 years in prison Friday for sexually assaulting a woman in San Diego.

Jared Elkins, 33, was convicted of forcible rape, two counts of forcible oral copulation and sexual penetration by use of force in connection with an incident that happened in Kensington on Sept. 14, 2017.

Elkins was once employed as an officer with the Yuma Police Department in Yuma, California.

The 7-year veteran officer was off-duty at the time of the sexual assault, Yuma police told NBC 7.
